She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing/Family Nurse Practitioner, both from the University of Phoenix. She also holds a Post-Master's Certificate in Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) from Azusa Pacific University, and will begin Aspen University's DNP program in early 2023.

Choosing the field of nursing after many years in leadership roles, Kywina remains an active member of the California Nurse Practitioners Association, the American Nurses Association, and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.

A Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is an advanced practice registered nurse trained to provide a wide range of mental health services to patients and families in a variety of settings. PMHNPs diagnose conduct therapy and prescribe medications for patients who have psychiatric disorders, medical organic brain disorders, or substance abuse problems. They are licensed to provide emergency psychiatric services, psychosocial and physical assessment of their patients, treatment plans, and manage patient care. They may also serve as consultants or as educators for families and staff. 

When she isn't working, Kywina enjoys playing with her grandchildren and her dog, going to the movies, eating at good restaurants, and swimming.
